Gardens by Demetra (GbD) grew out of a lifelong passion for organic
gardening, design, and habitat building. Consistent organic practices help ensure that clients enjoy landscapes
that are both beautiful and good to
the earth. I am proud to confirm that
my created landscapes never rely on pesticides, herbicides, or chemical
fertilizers to thrive and provide their owners and visitors with lasting and healthy enjoyment. By using organic design principles, all
GbD gardens serve as both edible
landscapes to feed your body, as well as beautiful vistas to nourish your soul. Whether simply adding perennial herbs
or building a gorgeous vegetable garden, my driving force is to design your
garden to be as delicious as it looks!
An essential component of GbD landscapes is use of native plants. This is key, because many other gardens focus upon use of
exotic plants, which actually do not offer beneficial habitat to native insects
and birds. Such "visual only"
gardens may seem like Grandma's parlor; they're lovely to look at but not very
friendly to be in and not very effective at providing you with a synergetic
natural resource. I plant native
plants to help attract beneficial insects, butterflies, and birds that so many
of us love to see and hear in our gardens, and that can actually assist in
keeping our gardens cultivated and alive.
